  • The Mediator in Scripture: From Old Testament Types to New Testament Reality

The term “Mediator” (Greek: mesitēs) literally means “one who stands in the middle.” In the biblical context, a mediator is one who serves as a bridge between God and humanity, bringing God’s will to people and presenting people’s needs before God.

Throughout Scripture, a central dilemma persists: God is holy, and humanity is sinful—this chasm prevents people from approaching God directly. Therefore, God actively establishes mediators to serve as channels of communication, witnesses of the covenant, and means of restoring relationship between Himself and humanity.

  • You Sold Yourself

    Scripture: 1 Kings 21:25–26

“There was no one like Ahab, who sold himself to do what was evil in the sight of the LORD, urged on by Jezebel his wife.”

These two verses function like the author of 1 Kings’ final verdict on Ahab: the Naboth vineyard episode was not an isolated failure, but the concentrated expression of Ahab’s long pattern of turning from God, following idols, abusing power, and yielding to sin.

  • The Double Mirror of Faithfulness and Responsibility: From the Parable of the Talents to the Spider-Man Paradox

The Gospel of Matthew tells of a master who distributed talents according to each servant’s ability; those who stewarded them faithfully and bore fruit were commended, while the one who buried his talent lost even what had been entrusted to him. The master concludes: “For to everyone who has, more shall be given, and he will have an abundance; but from the one who does not have, even what he does have shall be taken away.”

This forms a thought-provoking contrast with the familiar Spider-Man maxim, “With great power comes great responsibility.” The former concerns entrustment, faithfulness, judgment, and outcome; the latter concerns ability, moral obligation, and protection of others. Both address responsibility, yet they begin from different worldviews and philosophies of life.

  • Have You Found Me?

    Scripture: 1 Kings 21:20–24

“You have sold yourself to do evil in the sight of the LORD.”

Ahab stands in the vineyard he has finally obtained, only to hear Elijah’s voice at the most unexpected moment; his first words are not repentance, but, “Have you found me, O my enemy?”

This single sentence reveals his long-standing inner posture: he had believed he could hide, conceal, and escape.

  • Playing for the Love of the Game: Rediscovering Purpose, Flexibility, and Grace in a Utilitarian World為踢球而踢球:在功利世界中重尋初心、柔韌與恩典

    I. Playing Is Not Only about Winning: Love Is Not a Tool

“Playing football is not merely for winning; playing football is for playing football.” This does not reject competition or claim that outcomes do not matter. It dismantles the bondage that arises when winning becomes the only value. When someone permits themselves only success, they can no longer play, work, love, or live freely, because every action becomes a trial of their personal worth.

  • Proportionate Judgment

    Scripture: 1 Kings 21:17–19

“Have you murdered and also taken possession?”

This passage declares that although Ahab is Israel’s king, he cannot escape God’s judgment; his throne, reputation, and power cannot make the shedding of innocent blood and seizure of another’s inheritance right.

  • Violating the Law Through Legal Forms

    Scripture: 1 Kings 21:5–16

This passage exposes a particularly dangerous form of injustice: Jezebel does not openly announce, “I will murder Naboth.” Instead, she uses the king’s name, a religious fast, elders and nobles, two witnesses, and a public trial to produce what appears to be a lawful killing.

  • The Grace and Boundaries of Reflection: From Self-Examination to Freedom, Action, and Rest

Human beings need reflection and honest self-examination; yet reflection should not become endless self-condemnation, anxiety, worry, or inner exhaustion.

Truly healthy reflection helps a person see the truth, take responsibility, make adjustments, and return to God, others, and real life.

  • Leaving Sullen?—When Authority, Desire, and Conscience Collide

    Scripture: 1 Kings 21:1–4.

King Ahab saw Naboth’s vineyard near his palace, wanted it for a vegetable garden, and offered either a better vineyard or payment in silver.

On the surface, Ahab seems to make a reasonable—even generous—offer; yet the passage reveals not a simple land transaction, but a conflict involving authority, covetousness, conscience, and covenant faithfulness.
