These notes give one central sentence for each biblical book, then add key verses, relational themes, and one-line theological frameworks.
Framework of Redemptive History
The Old Testament prepares and promises the Savior; the Gospels testify that the Son accomplishes salvation in the flesh; Acts through Revelation show the Spirit applying Christ’s salvation, building the church, and leading history toward new creation.
“Age of the Father, Son, and Spirit” can be a teaching framework for redemptive history, but the Triune God always works together and should not be understood as three Gods taking turns.
The Pentateuch is foundational for Old Testament faith, while the four Gospels are foundational for New Testament faith; together they establish the biblical picture of creation, covenant, salvation, and kingdom.
The unified message of the twenty-seven New Testament books is this: the Gospels witness to Christ, Acts records the birth of the church, the Epistles explain how the gospel shapes believers and communities, and Revelation proclaims Christ’s final victory.
The whole Bible can be condensed into one line: God creates, humanity falls, God promises, Christ accomplishes, the Spirit applies, the church witnesses, and all things are made new.

Free Will and Responsibility: After the fall, the will is bound by sin and cannot turn to God on its own, yet remains morally responsible; God’s grace frees the will to willingly choose obedience.
Election and Reprobation: Election is God’s eternal purpose to save in love; reprobation is God’s decision to leave sinners to their own path to judgment—both display God’s sovereignty and justice.
Marks of the Church: The true church is marked by pure preaching of the Word, right administration of the sacraments, and the exercise of church discipline; lacking any impairs the church’s health.
Nature of Sacraments: Baptism and the Lord’s Supper are sacraments instituted by Christ, signs and seals of the covenant of grace, conveying and strengthening faith through visible means.
Meaning of Baptism: Baptism signifies union with Christ, cleansing from sin, incorporation into Christ’s body, and serves as the response of a good conscience toward God.
Meaning of Communion: The Lord’s Supper remembers Christ’s death, proclaims His return, and spiritually shares His body and blood, strengthening believers’ fellowship.
Church Authority: Church authority is not political coercion but “binding and loosing”—exercising spiritual authority through preaching, discipline, and prayer.
Nature of Evangelism: Evangelism is declaring Christ’s lordship and salvation, calling people to repentance and faith, and testifying by one’s life to the gospel’s reality.
Phases of Eschatology: Eschatology begins with Christ’s first coming, continues through the church age, and culminates in Christ’s return, millennium (pre-, post-, or a-), final judgment, and new creation.
Heaven and Hell: Heaven is eternal joy in God’s presence; hell is eternal punishment in separation from God; both are real and eternal.
New Creation: The new heaven and new earth are not purely spiritual, but a renewed creation where God dwells with His people and death and mourning are no more.
Sufficiency of Scripture: Scripture is sufficient for salvation and godly living, but does not cover all technical knowledge; it speaks to “saving truth we need to know,” not “all knowledge there is.”
Clarity of Scripture: Scripture is clear on matters essential for salvation and life, not monopolized by scholars, though not every detail is equally easy to understand.
Redemptive Historical Frameworks
Seven Stages of Redemptive History: Creation → Fall → Patriarchs → Exodus & Sinai Covenant → Kingdom → Exile & Return → Christ’s Coming & New Covenant → Church Age → Christ’s Return & New Creation.
Six Covenant Structure: Adamic (works), Noahic (preservation), Abrahamic (promise & land), Mosaic (law & priesthood), Davidic (kingship & eternal kingdom), New (Spirit & heart renewal).
Axis of Biblical History: Everything in the Old Testament—law, sacrifice, king, prophet, temple, festivals—points to Christ; everything in the New Testament—gospel, church, sacraments, mission—flows from and returns to Christ.
Intertestamental Silence: About four hundred years from Malachi to John the Baptist, God gave no revelation, yet prepared Greek as a common language, Roman roads, synagogue systems, and messianic expectation, making the time for the gospel ripe.
Four Old Testament Themes: Creation (God’s sovereignty), Fall (human need), Election (God’s grace), Covenant (God-human relationship).
Four New Testament Themes: Christ (center of revelation), Spirit (source of power), Church (body of Christ), Kingdom (consummation of all things).
Two Major Turning Points: Sinai (law given) and Golgotha (Christ crucified)—the former condemns, the latter justifies; the former exposes sin, the latter removes it; the former is a shadow, the latter the substance.

Thematic Summaries
The Grace Thread: Grace is not a New Testament invention, but God’s consistent character—choosing before creation, persevering in history, displaying in Christ, and applying through the Spirit.
The Covenant Thread: The Old Testament law-covenant and the New Testament promise-covenant are not opposed, but are the same covenant of grace revealed in different stages.
The Kingdom Thread: God’s kingdom begins with Adam’s dominion mandate, is foreshadowed in David’s throne, breaks in through Christ’s preaching, grows hidden in the church, and is fully revealed at His return.
The Suffering Thread: From Job’s trials, Israel’s exile, the Psalms’ laments, to Christ’s cross—suffering is not God’s absence, but His means of redemption and refinement.
The Remnant Thread: From Noah, Elijah, Isaiah’s remnant, to Paul’s “there is a remnant according to grace,” God always preserves a faithful people to continue His plan.
The Holiness Thread: Holiness is not an added requirement but the overflow of God’s nature and the basic call to His people—from Leviticus’ “be holy” to Peter’s “be holy in all your conduct.”
The Wisdom Thread: Wisdom begins with the fear of God, embodied by Joseph, Daniel, and others in the Old Testament; in the New Testament, Christ becomes “the wisdom of God,” in whom all true wisdom is hidden.
The Love Thread (supplemented): Genesis → Song of Songs → Ephesians → Revelation—love moves from creation’s gift, covenant loyalty, the mystery of Christ and the church, to the final wedding feast of the Lamb.
The Worship Thread: From Abel’s offering, the tabernacle, the temple, the synagogue, to the church—forms change, but the core remains—God-centered obedience, thanksgiving, and praise.
The Mission Thread: From Adam’s “rule,” Abraham’s “all nations blessed through you,” Israel’s “kingdom of priests,” to the Great Commission’s “make disciples of all nations”—God’s mission is always a blessing flowing to the whole earth.
The Faith Thread: From Abel, Enoch, Noah, Abraham to Hebrews 11’s Hall of Faith—faith is always “the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.”
The Hope Thread: From the patriarchs waiting for the promised land, the Davidic covenant’s promise of an eternal kingdom, the prophets’ messianic expectation, to the New Testament’s waiting for Christ’s return—hope sustains people through hardship.
Reading & Life Applications
Reading the Old Testament: Do not read it merely as moral tales or archaeological data, but see how it prepares hearts for Christ and reveals God’s unchanging character through law and history.
Reading Poetry & Wisdom: Allow yourself to express real emotions before God—lament, doubt, anger, joy, praise—because these books are not theoretical textbooks but records of wrestling with God.
Reading the Prophets: Notice that judgment is not the final word—after judgment comes promise of a “remnant,” “return,” “new covenant,” and “new creation.”
Reading the Gospels: Do not only focus on what Jesus said, but also observe with whom He ate, whom He touched, whom He rebuked; His way of serving is itself theology.
Reading Acts: Do not see the church as a perfect model, but as a community being transformed by the Spirit; its conflicts, controversies, and growth are all instructive.
Reading the Epistles: First identify the “gospel indicatives” (what God has done) and the “life imperatives” (how we respond), because the order is always grace first, then response.
Reading Revelation: Do not over-focus on timelines or symbol details, but see the vision that “the Lamb already reigns” and hold onto hope in the midst of persecution.
Applying Each Book: Ask yourself—How does this book challenge my worldview? How does it shape my understanding of suffering, grace, community, and mission?
Applying Key Verses: Do not treat key verses as “lucky charms,” but ask how this verse changes my understanding of God, myself, and my actions toward others.
Applying Characters: Do not treat characters as heroes to admire or villains to despise, but see how God works through flawed people, and reflect “I am that kind of person too.”
Applying Theological Frameworks: Theology is not a weapon for winning arguments, but a tool for worship, loving God and neighbor, and building up the community.
One-line Summary of Faith Practice: Every day, live by grace, walk by faith, endure with hope, and love others as Christ loved you.
