這段經文把試煉中的信心，放進一個遠比個人處境更大的圖畫裡：先知曾詳細搜索查考、天使切望察看的救恩，正在你今天的信心裡真實地展開。
This passage places faith amid trials within a much larger picture than personal circumstance: the salvation that prophets diligently searched to understand, and that angels long to look into, is truly unfolding today in your faith.
一、比金子更寶貴的信心
Faith More Precious Than Gold
彼得用煉金的比喻描述信心受考驗的過程：金子經過火的試煉，是要除去雜質，顯出純度；信心經過試煉，則是要顯出它的真實與寶貴。
Peter uses the metaphor of refining gold to describe the process of faith being tested: gold is tested by fire to remove impurities and reveal purity; faith is tested to reveal its authenticity and worth.
這句話特別值得留意的地方，是彼得說信心「比那被火試煉仍然能壞的金子更顯寶貴」。金子即使被煉得再純淨，終究還是會朽壞、會消逝的物質；但被試煉過的信心，卻指向一個永不朽壞的結果——在耶穌基督顯現的時候，得著稱讚、榮耀、尊貴。
What is particularly worth noting is that Peter says faith is “more precious than gold that perishes though tested by fire.” Even gold refined to its purest form remains a perishable material that will eventually decay; but tested faith points toward an imperishable outcome—praise, glory, and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ.
信心之所以比金子更寶貴，不是因為信心本身有魔力，而是因為它所指向、所連結的對象，是那位已經復活、掌管萬有的基督，以及祂所應許、永不朽壞的救恩。試煉的作用，不是要摧毀你的信心，而是要把信心中虛假、依附於環境、只在順境中才存在的部分煉去，留下真實、經得起考驗、能夠持續到底的信靠。
Faith is more precious than gold not because faith itself is magical, but because of what it points to and connects with: the risen Christ who reigns over all, and the imperishable salvation He has promised. The purpose of trials is not to destroy your faith, but to burn away what is false in it—the parts dependent on favorable circumstances that exist only when things go well—leaving behind genuine faith that has withstood testing and can endure to the end.
因此，若你此刻正經歷試煉，這試煉本身雖然痛苦，卻可能正是神使用的方式，讓你的信心從「聽起來很好」變成「經得起考驗」。
Therefore, if you are experiencing trials right now, though the trial itself is painful, it may well be the very means God is using to move your faith from “sounding good” to “proving genuine.”
二、先知渴望明白，卻只服事你
Prophets Longed to Understand, Yet Served Only You
第10至12節把焦點從讀者自身的試煉，轉向一個令人驚訝的歷史事實：舊約的先知曾經「詳細地搜索查考」，想要明白他們自己所預言的救恩，究竟是甚麼時候、甚麼樣的情況會發生。
Verses 10–12 shift the focus from the readers’ own trials to a striking historical fact: the Old Testament prophets themselves “searched and inquired carefully,” longing to understand the timing and circumstances of the very salvation they were prophesying.
在他們心裡的「基督的靈」，早已預先向他們證明基督「受苦難，後來得榮耀」；但先知們自己並不完全明白這預言指向誰、指向何時。有釋經者指出，這些先知清楚看見，彌賽亞國度所帶來的恩典，遠超過律法之下所曾顯現的一切；因此他們竭力查考，如同在沙土或矿石中搜尋金粒一般，渴望知道這奇妙救恩顯現的時候與徵兆。
“The Spirit of Christ” within them had already testified beforehand that Christ would “suffer, and afterward be glorified”; yet the prophets themselves did not fully understand who or when this prophecy referred to. Commentators note that these prophets clearly perceived that the grace to come under the Messiah’s kingdom would far exceed anything previously revealed under the law; hence they diligently searched, as one searches for grains of gold hidden in sand or ore, longing to know the time and signs of this wondrous display of God’s mercy.
彼得接著揭示一個深刻的真相：這些先知「服事的不是自己，而是你」。他們窮盡一生查考的奧秘，最終不是為了自己那個世代，而是為了活在基督已經顯現之後的你我。
Peter then reveals a profound truth: these prophets “were not serving themselves but you.” The mystery they spent their lives searching to understand was ultimately not for their own generation, but for you and me, living after Christ has already been revealed.
這意味著，你今天所領受的救恩、所擁有的活潑盼望，是歷代先知渴望卻未能完全明白、未能親眼看見的恩典。你不是這救恩歷史中的旁觀者，而是它真正要臨到的對象。
This means that the salvation you receive today, the living hope you possess, is grace that generations of prophets longed for yet could not fully understand or personally witness. You are not a bystander in this history of salvation; you are the very one it was meant to reach.
三、天使切望察看的奧秘
The Mystery Angels Long to Look Into
彼得補充說，這些關於基督受苦與得榮耀的事，「連天使也都切望察看」。原文的意思接近「俯身探看」，形容一種極度渴望、專注凝視的姿態。
Peter adds that these things concerning Christ’s suffering and glory are “things into which angels long to look.” The original word carries the sense of “stooping down to peer intently,” describing a posture of intense longing and focused gazing.
有釋經者解釋，天使渴望明白的，是神藉基督救贖罪人這件事所顯出的無限智慧與奇妙恩典；天使無法親自經歷救恩，卻因看見神在人身上所成就的救贖工作而心生驚嘆與喜樂。
Commentators explain that what angels long to understand is the boundless wisdom and wondrous grace displayed in God’s redemption of sinners through Christ; angels cannot personally experience salvation, yet they marvel and rejoice at witnessing God’s redemptive work accomplished in humanity.

This picture places your present trial of faith within a cosmic scene: prophets peered forward through history, angels stoop down from heaven to look, and you are living in the very moment when this salvation has already been revealed and is actively at work in your life. Your faith today is not an isolated, unnoticed matter—it is the mystery that prophets longed to see and angels long to understand, genuinely unfolding within you.
四、基督受苦難後得榮耀的模式
The Pattern: Christ’s Suffering, Followed by Glory
彼得特別強調，先知所預言的，是基督「受苦難，後來得榮耀」的雙重次序——先受苦，後得榮耀，而不是相反。有學者指出，這個新約的開啟，同時包括了苦難與榮耀；在這個約完全實現、基督再來之前，苦難與榮耀將一直是神子民的命定經歷。
Peter specifically emphasizes that the prophets foretold Christ’s “sufferings and the glories that would follow”—a fixed order of suffering first, then glory, not the reverse. Scholars note that the inauguration of this new covenant included both suffering and glory; until this covenant is fully consummated at Christ’s return, suffering and glory will remain the lot of God’s people.
這個模式不只是基督個人的經歷，也成為每一位跟隨基督之人生命的形狀。彼得前書後續反覆呼應這個次序：基督徒現今在世上經歷苦難，這苦難帶著目的，最終要在與基督同享的榮耀中得到成全；分享基督的苦難，是進入祂所要顯現榮耀的必經之路。
This pattern is not merely Christ’s own personal experience; it becomes the shape of every follower’s life. Later in the letter, Peter repeatedly echoes this order: believers presently experience suffering in this world, and that suffering carries purpose, ultimately culminating in glory shared with Christ; sharing in Christ’s sufferings is the necessary path toward the glory that will be revealed.[7][8]
這意味著，基督徒的生命，理應與基督受苦難、後得榮耀的經歷緊密聯繫。這不是說每一種苦難都直接等同於「為基督受苦」，也不是說苦難本身有救贖的功效；而是說，當你因忠於基督、堅守良心、活出信仰而經歷困難時，你正走在基督自己所走過的道路上，也正朝著祂所應許的榮耀前行。
This means that a Christian’s life should be closely tied to Christ’s pattern of suffering followed by glory. This does not mean every hardship is automatically “suffering for Christ,” nor that suffering itself has redemptive power; rather, it means that when you experience difficulty because of faithfulness to Christ, adherence to conscience, or living out your faith, you are walking the very road Christ Himself walked, and moving toward the glory He has promised.
五、你願意這樣的生命嗎？
Are You Willing to Live This Way?
這是一個誠實而不容易回答的問題。多數人本能地渴望榮耀而躲避苦難；很少人會主動選擇一條「先受苦、後得榮耀」的道路。
This is an honest question, not an easy one to answer. Most people instinctively desire glory while avoiding suffering; few would actively choose a path of “suffering first, glory later.”
但彼得所描繪的，不是要人主動尋找痛苦，而是當困難因著忠於基督而臨到時，能夠以正確的眼光看待它：這不是神遺棄你的證據，而是你與基督生命連結的證據；這不是徒然的損失，而是信心被煉淨、朝向將來榮耀前行的過程。
But what Peter describes is not seeking out pain deliberately; rather, when difficulty comes because of faithfulness to Christ, it can be viewed with the right perspective: not as evidence that God has abandoned you, but as evidence that your life is joined to Christ’s; not as meaningless loss, but as a process of faith being refined, moving toward future glory.
願意活出這樣的生命，意味著在具體處境中作出選擇：在職場中，即使誠實可能帶來排擠或損失，仍選擇不隱瞞、不作假；在關係中，即使堅持真理可能帶來孤單，仍選擇不妥協良心；在信仰群體中，即使忠於基督可能帶來誤解，仍選擇不隨波逐流。
Being willing to live this way means making concrete choices: at work, choosing not to conceal or falsify things even if honesty may bring exclusion or loss; in relationships, choosing not to compromise conscience even if holding to truth may bring loneliness; within a faith community, choosing not to drift with the crowd even if faithfulness to Christ may bring misunderstanding.
這些選擇的代價是真實的，但彼得提醒我們，這代價不是終點。正如基督受苦難後得榮耀，凡與祂生命聯合的人，也必經歷同樣的次序——苦難是暫時的，榮耀卻是永久的。
The cost of these choices is real, but Peter reminds us that this cost is not the final word. Just as Christ suffered and was afterward glorified, all who are united with His life will experience the same order—suffering is temporary, but glory is eternal.

Do I believe that the trial of faith I am experiencing right now is making my faith more precious than gold, rather than being suffering in vain?

Do I understand that the mystery of salvation prophets longed to understand and angels long to look into is truly at work in my life?
我是否願意讓自己的生命，與基督受苦難、後得榮耀的模式聯繫起來，即使這意味著要在具體處境中付出代價？
Am I willing to let my life be joined to Christ’s pattern of suffering followed by glory, even if it means paying a real cost in concrete situations?
主啊，感謝祢使我的信心，即使在試煉中，仍比那終將朽壞的金子更顯寶貴。
Lord, thank You that even amid trials, my faith is made more precious than gold that will one day perish.

Thank You for helping me understand that the salvation I receive today is the mystery prophets longed to search out and angels long to look into, now truly come to me.

Help me, when facing difficulty because of faithfulness to You, neither to avoid nor deny the pain, nor to be crushed by it, but to remember that Christ’s pattern of suffering followed by glory is truly being fulfilled in my life.
願我甘心讓自己的生命，與祢受苦難、得榮耀的經歷聯繫起來，直到那日，我的信心得著稱讚、榮耀、尊貴。
May I willingly let my life be joined to Your experience of suffering and glory, until that day when my faith results in praise, glory, and honor.
