經文
Scripture
“Do not be deceived: God is not mocked, for whatever one sows, that will he also reap. For the one who sows to his own flesh will from the flesh reap corruption, but the one who sows to the Spirit will from the Spirit reap eternal life. And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up. So then, as we have opportunity, let us do good to everyone, and especially to those who are of the household of faith.”
1. How This Passage Connects to the Previous Verses
Galatians 6:1–6 speaks of restoring the fallen, carrying one another’s burdens, examining oneself, and supporting those who teach the word.
Verses 6:7–10 place these teachings under the principle of “sowing and reaping.”
Paul reminds believers that how we live, choose, and use our time, money, words, and strength each day is like sowing seed in a field; there will eventually be a harvest.
2. “Do Not Be Deceived: God Is Not Mocked”
Verse 7 says, “Do not be deceived: God is not mocked.”
This reminds us that people easily think their choices have no consequences, or that they can live according to the flesh while expecting a spiritual harvest.
But God is just; He is not deceived by outward religious performance or self-consolation.
3. Two Kinds of Sowing: Flesh and Spirit
Verse 8 divides life into two paths: sowing to the flesh or sowing to the Spirit.
| Sowing | Expression | Harvest |
|---|---|---|
| To the flesh | Gratifying desires, indulgence, envy, anger, selfishness, avoiding responsibility | Corruption |
| To the Spirit | Obeying God, loving others, doing good, self-control, patience, faithfulness | Eternal life |
“Sowing” is not a one-time major decision but daily small choices.
例如:
For example:
- Sowing to the flesh: indulging pornography, revenge, lying, greed, laziness, gossip, or avoiding responsibility.
- Sowing to the Spirit: praying, reading Scripture, forgiving, being honest, serving, helping those in need, and controlling emotions and words.
4. “Reap Corruption” and “Reap Eternal Life”
Those who sow to the flesh will reap corruption from the flesh.
“Corruption” does not mean God arbitrarily punishes people; it refers to the destruction sin itself brings: broken relationships, a damaged conscience, enslaving habits, loss of peace, and declining life.
Those who sow to the Spirit will reap eternal life from the Spirit.
This does not mean people earn salvation by doing good; believers receive eternal life by grace through faith in Christ.
Rather, those who live by the Spirit experience the power of eternal life now and will reap the life God has promised in the future.
5. “Do Not Grow Weary of Doing Good”
Verse 9 says, “Let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up.”
Doing good often does not show immediate results.
We may help others but be misunderstood, serve without thanks, pray without visible change, or love others and still be rejected.
Paul reminds us that the harvest comes “in due season,” not according to our timetable but according to God’s timing.
Therefore, we do good not for immediate reward but because we trust God, follow the Spirit, and believe He will bring about His purpose in His time.
6. “Do Good to Everyone, Especially the Household of Faith”
Verse 10 says, “As we have opportunity, let us do good to everyone, and especially to those who are of the household of faith.”
This verse has two key points:
1. Do Good to Everyone
Our good works should not be limited to people we like, people in our own church, or people who share our views.
We should do good to people of different backgrounds, beliefs, and needs.
2. Especially Care for the Household of Faith
Believers are one family in Christ; we share the same Father, Savior, and mission.
Therefore, we should especially notice the lonely, sick, elderly, single-parent families, those in financial need, caregivers, and the wounded in the church.
7. A Psychological Perspective: How Habits Shape Life
“Sowing and reaping” can also be understood through habits.
Daily small choices gradually form habits; habits shape character; character influences the direction of life.
例如:
For example:
- Spending daily time scrolling, comparing, and complaining gradually shapes anxiety and dissatisfaction.
- Daily prayer, gratitude, exercise, reading, and service gradually shape peace, self-control, and joy.
To change the harvest, first change the sowing; to change the sowing, first rely on the Spirit to establish new choices and habits.
8. How Can We Sow to the Spirit Today?
1. Choose One Act of Goodness
For example: help someone in need, encourage someone discouraged, accompany someone lonely, pray for a pastor, or express thanks to family.
2. Refuse to Sow to the Flesh
For example: refuse lying, revenge, envy, laziness, indulgence, or gossip.
3. Build Small Daily Habits
For example: read a passage daily, pray for five minutes, write down three things you are thankful for, or intentionally help one person.
4. Do Not Give Up Because Results Are Not Immediate
Trust that God will bring a harvest in His time.
5. Prioritize the Household of Faith
Notice those in need in the church and support them with practical action.
9. Prayer
Dear Heavenly Father,
Thank You for reminding me through Galatians that my daily choices, words, time, money, and strength are all seeds being sown.
Lord, keep me from self-deception and from mocking You.
Keep me from sowing to the flesh and reaping corruption; help me sow to the Spirit and reap eternal life.
Help me not grow weary in doing good or become discouraged because results are not immediate.
Help me see the needs around me, seize opportunities to do good to everyone, and especially care for the household of faith.
In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ I pray, Amen.
結語
Conclusion
Galatians 6:7–10 reminds us that life is like a field: the seeds we sow each day determine the fruit we will reap.
Therefore, do not sow to the flesh, nor grow weary because good works show no immediate results. Sow to the Spirit, seize opportunities to do good, and trust that God will bring a harvest in due season.
