苦難不是單一的現象。它既可以是身體的痛楚、關係的破裂、失去的哀傷、道德上的不公，也可以是更深層的空虛、焦慮、有限性與死亡意識。哲學、心理學、佛教與聖經啟示，都試圖回答同一些問題：苦難從何而來？人能如何承受？苦難能否被轉化？喜樂又是否可能？

Suffering is not a single phenomenon. It can involve bodily pain, broken relationships, grief over loss, moral injustice, and deeper experiences of emptiness, anxiety, finitude, and awareness of death. This passage places faith amid trials within a much larger picture than personal circumstance: the salvation that prophets diligently searched to understand, and that angels long to look into, is truly unfolding today in your faith.

「雖然你們必須在百般試煉中暫時憂愁，你們要為此喜樂。」
“Though you have been grieved by various trials for a little while, you rejoice.”

這節經文把兩個看似對立的情緒並列在一起：憂愁與喜樂。彼得沒有要求信徒否認憂愁，也沒有把喜樂變成一種強顏歡笑的表演，而是指出這兩者可以真實地同時存在於一個因信基督而活的生命裡。

This verse places two seemingly opposite emotions side by side: grief and joy. Peter does not ask believers to deny grief, nor does he turn joy into a forced performance; instead, he shows that both can genuinely coexist in a life lived by faith in Christ.

Peter does not begin with instruction, but with praise. This reminds us that the Christian’s starting point when facing hardship is not first asking “What should I do?” but first remembering “What has God already done for me?”

一、論證的出發點

I. The Starting Point of the Argument

聖經宣告：「神就是愛」（約翰一書四章八節）。
Scripture declares: “God is love” (1 John 4:8).

如果這句話不只是修辭，而是神本質的真實描述，那麼「愛」這個概念本身的邏輯結構，就會對神的存有方式提出要求。
If this statement is not merely rhetorical but a true description of God’s essence, then the logical structure of “love” itself places demands on how God must exist.

愛不是一個孤立的屬性，而是一種關係性的行動，天生需要施與受的兩端。
Love is not an isolated attribute but a relational act, inherently requiring both a giver and a receiver.

由此產生一個核心哲學問題：一個永恆、不依賴受造物才能存在的神，如果本質是愛，祂在創造宇宙之前，愛的對象是誰？
This raises a central philosophical question: if God is eternal and does not depend on creation to exist, and if His essence is love, who was the object of His love before creation?

「被揀選」與「寄居的人」，這兩個詞放在同一句話裡，構成了整封信最核心的身份張力：在神面前是尊貴的、蒙愛的；在世界面前卻是外人、暫居者。這種雙重身份，正是今天每一位基督徒都必須誠實面對的生命處境。
“Elect” and “sojourner” placed together in the same sentence form the central tension of identity running through the whole letter: honored and beloved before God, yet an outsider and temporary resident before the world. This double identity is precisely the life situation every Christian today must honestly face.

A Train, and a Mirror for the Heart

老師把教會比作一列火車，車頭、座位、笛、燈、欄杆、車廂，各有各的功用，正如教會裡各種恩賜與崗位，缺一不可。
The teacher compares the church to a train—engine, seats, whistle, lights, railings, and carriages each serve a purpose, just as the church contains many gifts and roles, none of which are dispensable.

Chapter Structure

第1至2節：問安與身份，宣告寄居者蒙三一上帝揀選、成聖、蒙血所灑。
Verses 1–2: Greeting and identity, declaring the sojourners chosen, sanctified, and sprinkled with blood by the triune God.

第3至5節：頌讚神，因基督復活，信徒得著長存的活潑盼望與不能朽壞的產業。
Verses 3–5: Praise to God, for through Christ’s resurrection believers receive a living hope and an imperishable inheritance.
