• The Secularized Redemption Narrative in Steppenwolf: A Revised Christian Literary Reading《

Abstract

Steppenwolf can be read as a “secularized narrative of redemption,” but argues against oversimplifying it as “Hesse rewriting biblical fall, temptation, judgment, and resurrection as self-redemption.” More precisely, Hesse preserves the structural tensions of religious experience—guilt, lostness, vision, judgment, death, eternity, and transcendence—but relocates them into the realms of psyche, art, music, play, and the integration of personality. This paper revises the original fourfold framework, demonstrating that Hermine is not Satan, that Hermine’s death signifies Harry’s failure rather than a successful sacrifice, that “learning to laugh” more closely resembles the courage to “try again” rather than the assurance of resurrection, and that “otherness” and “grace” constitute the deepest difference between Christianity and Hesse’s thought.

  • A Pop-Group Guide to Philosophy: From the Greek Three Sages to French Postmodernism

If philosophy is treated as a relay race of ideas, its main line runs from ancient Greek questions about truth and the good life, through modern attempts to ground knowledge and reason, to German Idealism’s focus on subjectivity, freedom, and history, followed by challenges to reason, the self, language, and power.

  • The Inner Room

    Scripture: 1 Kings 22:24–28

“You will find out on the day you go to hide in an inner room.”

After Micaiah speaks the LORD’s true word, he receives no honor; instead, Zedekiah strikes him and Ahab orders him imprisoned.

This passage reveals an unsettling but real spiritual pattern: those who speak truth may be treated as troublemakers, while those who flatter power may temporarily be seen as spiritual, loyal, and influential.

Yet outward victory is not the final verdict.

  • Reason-Wisdom, Will, and Obedience in the Bible: A Model of Spiritual Transformation《

The Bible does not portray human reason, will, and action as three forces competing against one another.

It understands the person as a whole: heart, mind, wisdom, desires, and conduct all need to be renewed together by God’s truth and grace.

“Will” is not a term with one fixed meaning throughout the history of philosophy.

At times it means the conscious capacity to choose; at others, deep desire and impulse, moral self-legislation, unconscious drive, or the way a person assumes choices within a concrete situation.

    I. Plot, Structure, and Key Episodes

Romain Rolland’s Jean-Christophe is a “novelistic symphony” of roughly a million words, composed in ten volumes. It follows the life of Jean-Christophe Krafft, a German musical genius, from his childhood by the Rhine to the serenity he reaches in the Swiss mountains in old age.

Micaiah’s vision moves us from the political stage at the gate of Samaria to the throne room of heaven.

  • From Death to Resurrection: A Systematic Biblical Summary

    I. The Nature of Death

    2. Death Is Not Annihilation, but Rupture

Scripture describes death not as “returning to nothingness,” but as rupture of relationships: rupture between humanity and God, between persons, within the self, and between humanity and creation.

  • From Schopenhauer’s Consolation to Resurrection Hope: Happiness, Death, and the Ultimate Question of Personal Meaning

The fear of death is not merely fear that life will end; it is fear that everything one loves, does, and remembers—together with the concrete person called “I”—will finally disappear.

Schopenhauer has great consoling power because he does not try to conceal death with cheap optimism or postmortem reward; instead, he rewrites the problem at its root: if the individual self is not ultimate reality, death need not be understood as absolute destruction.
